Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips

Can I make the cookies smaller?

You can split the cookies in half, totaling 4 cookies instead of two if you’d like smaller portions. If you do this, be sure to keep an eye on them in the oven as they will be done sooner in time than called for in the recipe card. I would check them at the 7-8 minute mark.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter mostly, but not fully melted
  • 3 Tbsp light brown sugar lightly packed
  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 3/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 6 Tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips divided

Things You’ll Need

Before You Begin

  • Be careful not to over-bake the cookies because they’ll harden more as they cool. These cookies should look light golden on the outside, but should still look a touch doughy in the center when you take them out of the oven.
  • You can easily split the dough into 4 equal balls instead of two, but you will need to lower the baking time. I would check them at the 7-8 minute mark for doneness.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a large baking tray with parchment paper or a silpat liner.

  • Add the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla to a medium bowl, and use a fork or whisk to stir until smooth.

  • Add the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt, and stir until well-combined.

  • Stir in 5 tablespoons chocolate chips.

  • Divide the dough into 2 equal balls and place them on the prepared baking tray.

  • Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon chocolate chips on top of the cookie dough balls.

  • Bake until the cookies are light golden, about 12 to 14 minutes.

  • Let the cookies cool on the baking tray.
