I've been doing my share of therapy baking lately.

Baking has always brought me to a place of comfort. I enjoy baking all sorts of sweet things, but I would have to say, baking a good chocolate chip cookie tops my list of comfort baking choices.

I've made lots and lots of delicious cookies over the years. Some are traditional favorites like this recipe for oatmeal cookiesand others are twists on traditional favorites like this popular recipe for Lemon Shortbread Cookies. I even have a very popular recipe for a fun holiday Santa's Swirl Sugar Cookie on the blog. During the holidays, I've been known to bake over 10 different kinds of cookies to celebrate the season!

When I saw this recipe for Double Tree Chocolate Chip Cookies going around social media, I knew I wanted to give it a try.

I'm no stranger to the famous Double Tree Chocolate Chip Cookie! Back when my daughter was in college, she studied in NYC for a semester. A block over from where where she lived was a Double Tree that we stayed in when we moved her in, out, and visited her.

Whenever we checked in, there were always warm and oh so delicious gooey chocolate chip cookies given to us. In fact, every time we passed by the lobby, we were offered these amazing chocolate chip cookies no matter what the time of day or night!

I had almost forgotten about these gems until a few weeks ago, when someone mentioned that Double Tree had released the recipe to the public.

Instantly, I was transported back to the lobby of the NYC hotel and knew I just had to make them in my own kitchen!

The recipe is a pretty straight forward chocolate chip cookie recipe with just a few extra additions:

1. A small amount of fresh squeezed lemon juice. I'm not entirely sure why this ingredient is in this recipe. It's possible it boosts the flavor or maybe creates some sort of magical baking chemical reaction. I don't know. I do know you shouldn't skip it.

2. A 1/2 cup rolled oats. I used the quick cooking variety. They gave the cookies a nice texture. It's such a small amount compared to the amount of oats used in oatmeal cookies. You can barely tell they are in there, but it's a nice addition.

3. A pinch of cinnamon. It's not enough to even know it's in there, but it does give the cookie that something extra in it's flavor profile.

The original recipe calls for Nestle Tollhouse Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips. Admittedly, I used Ghiradelli 60% Cacoa Chocolate Chips in my version because that's what I had on hand, but really, any brand of semi-sweet chocolate chips work in this recipe.

These chocolate chip cookies are so good! Give them a go and let me know what you think!

They just might become your new go-to chocolate chip cookie recip
