Like most of our recipes, you know the focus it’s on easy recipes that won’t keep you in the kitchen long, and this blended strawberry lemonade is just that.

If, like me, you are longing for summer so badly, and you’re done with all the rain we’ve been getting…I am sure it is clear. So I thought that, while we still have got no spring either, why not get ahead of ourselves and prepare a super easy blended strawberry lemonade recipe? It can bring a little taste of spring with each sip, and you can’t be mad about that.

Why, are you asking yourself? Because, if the weather is not ready to bring some spring feels – apart from the cherry blossoms and flowers around – I am ready to bring it in myself. As they say, one does what one has to do. And the next thing you need to do is prepare this blended strawberry lemonade.

This blended strawberry lemonade recipe is great as it is. But it can be spiked. You know, for either an easy afternoon by yourself in the garden, or for a family get-together with kids ready to get sugar high. Or even spiked for that aunty who always loves a drink and despises family reunions. It’s a great recipe for everyone, and you can whip it up in minutes. So what more could you wish for? This recipe will surely be a great pick me up in these still very wintery and rainy days, at least in London.

Time to enjoy a delicious blended strawberry lemonade glass

This homemade blended strawberry lemonade has been a hit in the house and can’t wait to share it with all of you. But, before we get there, let’s talk about ingredients. Because you need great ingredients for great flavour and great taste!

What are strawberries and what are they good for?

Strawberries are the fruit of the gods in my opinion. They are a type of fruit that belongs to the genus Fragaria within the Rosaceae family. They are well-known for their bright red colour, juicy texture and sweet flavour. Strawberries are widely cultivated and consumed around the world. They can be eaten fresh, used in various desserts like cakes and pies, blended into smoothies, or preserved by freezing or making jams and jellies.

Nutritionally, strawberries are quite healthy. They are low in calories but packed with essential nutrients such as vitamin C, manganese, folate, potassium, and dietary fibre. They also contain antioxidants like anthocyanins and flavonoids, which have been linked to various health benefits, including reduced inflammation, improved heart health, and better blood sugar control.

Additionally, strawberries are a good source of ellagic acid, which may have anti-cancer properties. Studies have suggested that regular consumption of strawberries may help lower the risk of certain chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

You can now find different species of it. You will find them in different flavours, sizes and textures. But funny enough, here to disrupt all you thought until now, strawberries are not berries. You will think they are fruits then, but they are not even fruit. In fact, strawberries are defined as an aggregate accessory fruit. This means that the fleshy part doesn’t come from the ovary of the flower but from the receptacles that hold the ovaries.

All the ‘seeds’ (achene) you can see on the strawberry flesh are actually ovaries of the fruit and contain seeds inside it. How cool is it that you can still learn about something so popular and common?

What about lemons, are they good for you?

Lemons are citrus fruits known for their tart flavour and bright yellow colour. They are widely used in cooking, baking, beverages, and even for household cleaning purposes. Like other citrus fruits, lemons are packed with essential nutrients and offer several health benefits:

  1. Vitamin C: Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps boost the immune system, promote skin health, and aid in wound healing;
  2. Citric Acid: The high citric acid content in lemons may help prevent kidney stones by increasing urine volume and pH, thus reducing the risk of stone formation;
  3. Antioxidants: Lemons contain various antioxidants, such as flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory and potential anticancer properties;
  4. Weight Management: Some research suggests that the polyphenol antioxidants found in lemons may help with weight management by reducing weight gain and improving insulin resistance;
  5. Digestive Health: Drinking warm lemon water in the morning is a common practice believed to support digestion and detoxification, although scientific evidence is limited;
  6. Skin Health: The vitamin C in lemons plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis, which is essential for maintaining healthy skin and preventing signs of ageing;
  7. Heart Health: Some studies suggest that the antioxidants in lemons may help reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels.

While lemons are generally considered beneficial for health, consuming them in moderation is key, as their high acidity may cause dental erosion or gastrointestinal discomfort in some individuals. Incorporating lemons into a balanced diet can be a refreshing way to boost your nutrient intake and add flavour to various dishes and beverages.

What else does this easy strawberry lemonade recipe contain?

This easy strawberry lemonade recipe is not only a powerhouse drink because of strawberries. It also contains caster sugar, water and lemons.

And we know that just after strawberries, anything citrusy is a huge favourite over here at The Grumpy Olive HQ.

On top of strawberries and lemons, you also have water, ice and caster sugar. All ingredients that you can easily find. If sugar is not for you you can pick another sweetener type like agave, maple syrup or anything else you might decide. Ice-wise, you can use a regular mould or if you want to add a touch, I always love to get some shaped iced cubes. Kids will love it and adults too!

Can I substitute anything out of this blended strawberry lemonade recipe?

Being a homemade blended strawberry lemonade recipe and having only five ingredients, there’s not much you can really sub out. We can talk more about switching ingredients than anything else. In case you don’t have caster sugar, you can go for honey, simple syrup or some different kind of sweetener to balance out the taste of strawberries and lemons.

But in that case, the recipe might need to be tweaked and worked out, as it will be a different ratio to the ingredients stated in the recipe below. Strawberries and lemons are at the base of it, so I would avoid changing them. You can keep the recipe as a baseline for another fruit, but it will need to be tasted and adjusted accordingly to the fruit’s sweetness.

Can I find the ingredients for this blended strawberry lemonade easily?

Strawberries are in season from May to September, but you can always find them a month earlier too in case the weather has been warmer or from greenhouses. If you are in the USA, strawberries have a longer harvest season, from February to October, for example. So this all depends on where you live and where you get your produce from. As the strawberries are blended, you can actually have this all year round if you use frozen strawberries instead.

Can this lemonade recipe be consumed by everyone?

Indeed, this easy blended strawberry lemonade recipe is great for everyone, from kids to adults alike. It’s a great drink to prepare for a summer day out, a picnic, a family get-together or a barbecue with friends. If you also would like to serve this at a party, you can always add on some of your favourite alcoholic beverages.

This could work well with vodka or gin, or could also be good with seltzer, it all depends on your personal taste. Or if you feel like making something even classier or that could work well for a boozy brunch, you could add prosecco and go for your own version of a Bellini. The world is your oyster they say!

Is this blended strawberry lemonade recipe only good in summer?

As we said earlier, this is fine even outside of the summer season. Thanks to frozen strawberries, you can make this easy blended strawberry lemonade all year round and what a treat for your taste buds. But, there’s also to say that when you use fresh strawberries that are in season, you can get an even tastier drink, rest assured! Though, we are quite happy with a frozen strawberry lemonade every so often.

And if you manage to actually plant and harvest your own, even better! This lemonade will also be a great add-on to your breakfast and brunches and count as one of your five a day.

Do I need any particular kitchen tools to make it?

You don’t really need anything fancy to make this. All you will need is a blender and a pitcher. In case you don’t have a blender, fear not, you can mash your strawberries and use a fine mesh strainer to help you with the seeds or bigger chunks. You will also need a lemon squeezer unless you opt for already squeezed lemon. But usually, all you will need for this strawberry recipe it’s already available in most homes.

In case it’s not, a bit of fantasy and juggling can go a long way for sure. If you have an instant pot, you can also make it in there, check this instant pot recipe.

How do I make this easy strawberry lemonade recipe?

But now, let’s get to the good part of how we make this lemonade. There is very minimal preparation for this. It’s all about the washing and cleaning of your strawberries – which is still an important step no less! Then add all your ingredients including the lemon juice and cups of water to the blender and let it work.

After transferring your milk of the gods to a pitcher with ice, let it rest in the fridge. The colder the better! If you add alcohol, make sure that you avoid some of the water instead, so that you won’t water it down. And get ready to serve! Fish out those fancy glasses from the cupboard and add some reusable straws too.

Does this strawberry lemonade take a long time to make?

The best answer to this is NO! I love easy-to-whip-up recipes, you can never beat them! And if something can be so tasty in only ten minutes, imagine what you can make at the same time or with a bit more time! I am always amazed. And also, I love that this recipe is not only quick but also so easy you can make it over and over again without getting bored of it. We surely didn’t!

Do you have any more strawberry recipes on the blog?

I thought you would never ask! This easy blended strawberry lemonade recipe is only the tip of the iceberg of our love for this red goddess when it comes to food. They have been Simona’s absolute favourite since she can remember, and if there’s a cake that I can always envision here it’s our mum strawberry cake, followed by this summer drink.

And we actually made some mini ones last year, sharing our mum’s . Since I started baking myself, I have tried it all: from muffins to scones. And then pies, but also sorbet. And strawberry bubble tea, Korean strawberry milk and lastly, a strawberry passion fruit limonata. To die for.

Also, plenty more planned, trust me. Plenty more. And, if you are a fan of strawberries too, or are completely obsessed with them, we have a whole Pinterest board on them, because we are extra like that!

So, without further ado, shall I just give you this easy blended strawberry lemonade recipe? I guess I do!

Description

The quickest and easiest blended strawberry lemonade recipe ever made.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 800g strawberries
  • 300g caster sugar
  • 3 lemons, juiced
  • 1L cold water
  • crushed ice
  • extra lemons and strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries and dry them properly with a kitchen towel.
  2. Remove the green top and chop in half or quarters, depending on how big they are, and place in your blender.
  3. Add the sugar and lemon juice and blend until everything is creamy. You might need to add some water if it gets too thick and won’t blend properly.
  4. Now place the blended strawberries, sugar and lemon juice in a jug big enough to fit the water.
  5. Top it with the water you have left, and mix well using a wooden spoon.
  6. Add the ice, sliced lemons and sliced strawberries and mix again. You are ready to serve!

Notes

Make sure you keep it cold as it’s a lot better, it can also be blended with ice for an ice slushie version if you want.

If you’re adding alcohol, be mindful of the amount of water you will need instead as you will replace some with the alcohol of choice (vodka or gin would work wonders with this).
