Jump to Recipe

Green tea shot is an alcoholic drink with a delightful fusion of refreshing citrus flavors and the distinct flavor of whiskey. While it may not contain any green tea or white tea, the optional lemon lime soda lends a bright, tart quality reminiscent of lemonade.

✨ What do green tea shots taste like?

Green Tea Shot Drink (How To Make Jameson Green Tea Shot) (2)

These "green tea shots" will have a predominantly sweet-tart flavor, with strong notes of peach from the peach schnapps and the classic woody, smoky taste of Irish whiskey from the Jameson. If the optional lemon-lime soda is added, there will also be a light citrusy notes. Despite the name, these shots do not contain green tea.

I believe the color of the drink is so similar to the color of green tea that bar goers started calling it the green tea shot because it LOOKED like green jasmine tea.

What is a green tea shot made of?

Green Tea Shot Drink (How To Make Jameson Green Tea Shot) (3)

A "green tea shot" made with these ingredients consists of:

  • Irish whiskey (Jameson)
  • Peach schnapps
  • Sweet and sour mix
  • Optionally, lemon-lime soda can be added
  • Garnished with a lime wedge

So it is essentially a sweet and sour whiskey-peach co*cktail shot, with no actual green tea. The dominant flavors will be peach, whiskey, sweet and sour notes, with potential citrus notes if the lemon-lime soda is included.

WhichWhiskeyis the best to use?

Irish whiskeys like Jameson whiskey work well due to their blend of grain and malt whiskeys, giving a relatively light and smooth flavor profile that can complement the sweetness from the peach schnapps and sour mix.

Other quality Irish whiskey brands like Tullamore D.E.W., Bushmills, or Redbreast could potentially work as substitutes for Jameson if needed.

Chef Tip

Green Tea Shot Drink (How To Make Jameson Green Tea Shot) (10)
  • For the best drink experience, these shots are best consumed right after mixing, while the flavors are still perfectly blended and chilled.
  • The addition of lemon-lime soda is an optional extra, according to my professional bartender friends. If you prefer a touch of citrusy carbonation, feel free to include it. However, if you'd rather stick to the core whiskey-peach-sour flavors, you can omit the soda entirely. It's purely a matter of personal taste.
  • If you prefer your shots to be icy cold, you can achieve that frosty temperature by adding a few ice cubes to the co*cktail shaker before combining and shaking the liquid ingredients. The ice will quickly chill the mixture for an extra refreshing shot.
