Maple Bacon Cookies with Milk Chocolate Chips

Do you love bacon strips nestled in your sandwiches, topped on your salads; fried or baked?

When I posed the question on Facebook “Should I add bacon to the Cheesy Sausage-Stuffed Jalapenos recipe I was working on,” it was apparent that lots of folks believe that bacon is the icing on the cake, the cherry on top, and makes EVERYTHING taste better!

I’m finding it’s true. Bacon does indeed taste great, even in cookies!

These Maple Bacon Cookies have that tantalizing sweet/salt dance going on.

The salt in the bacon and sweet from the chocolate chips equals an awesome combination, plus you top them off with sea salt and brown sugar, ahhhh, can we say, YUM?!!

Maple Bacon Cookies From Scratch

All the ingredients for this recipe are common baking staples, but there are a couple of tips that you want to follow when gathering the ingredients.

First, cook your bacon ahead of time. Also, get regular bacon thickness, not the thick variety. You want the bacon slices to cook up nice and crispy.

When cooking bacon I usually pan fry it if I’m cooking just a couple of slices. When cooking a pound of bacon try the oven method.

This is an easy way to cook bacon without all the mess. All you do is line a baking sheet with foil and place each piece of bacon on top without over lapping the bacon.

Place the baking sheet in the oven and turn it on to 400 degrees. You’re bacon will be ready in about 20 minutes.

You can also lightly spray oven proof baking cooling racks to put on the baking sheets so the oil drips away from the bacon.

The final tip is to use REAL maple syrup, not flavored syrup. Real maple syrup is more expensive, but the flavor is delicious and worth the price. Flavored syrup is mostly made with cheap corn syrup.

Yeah, these cookies are not for those that are on a diet of any kind. These cookies definitely fit the bill for a fun occasional indulgence!

I made these for my dad’s Father’s Day breakfast 😉 Beats a tie don’t you think?!

I didn’t want to hunt for maple sugar, and I just couldn’t use the bacon fat in my cookies as the recipe suggests, but if you think that might be good, give it a try!
