North Carolina Housing Finance Agency Warns Citizens of Section 8 Scam (2)

RALEIGH—The NC Housing Finance Agency is issuing a warning to North Carolinians regarding an online scam targeting those seeking Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers in the state. This scam, presented as a fraudulent Facebook page modeled after the NC Housing Finance Agency Facebook account, encourages North Carolinians seeking Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to provide information via a fraudulent link. The scam also includes a flier announcing the opening of a wait list for these vouchers via the Agency office.

The NC Housing Finance Agency is not affiliated with this account, the flier or the scam and does not endorse any such solicitation.

The NC Housing Finance Agency is asking those seeking information on Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to contact their local Housing Development Authority for Assistance.https://www.hud.gov/sites/dfiles/PIH/documents/PHA_Contact_Report_NC.pdf

If citizens provided personal information through this account or paid a fee to access vouchers or a wait list, the Agency urges those individuals to file a police report and file reports with the Federal Trade Commission (https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/) and the NC Attorney General (https://ncdoj.gov/file-a-complaint/).
