CARDEN, WADE HAMPTON beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2006 in Houston, Texas. He was the only son of William Elvis Carden and Annie Elizabeth Wade who owned the Carden Farm, a beautiful 300 acres across the Clinch River from Clinton, Tennessee.

Wade was born in 1910 at home on the farm. He enjoyed la idyllic childhood as one of five children of a very successful and prominent father and devoted mother. He was a graduate of Clinton High School in 1929 and of the University of Tennessee in 1933, where he was active in R.O.T.C. He went on to earn a masters degree from Harvard Business School in 1935, and worked for Colonial Stores (based in Atlanta, Georgia) before and after WWII. In 1936 he married Agnes Jones, a school teacher from Knoxville whom he had met in church in Clinton.

Early in 1941, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army. During the war he played a key role in the office of the Quartermaster General supplying our troops all over the world, and as a Colonel received the Legion the end Lieutenant, of the war. He had an outstanding career in the grocery-store business and lat er with the credit-card division of American Express. He was an attentive and caring father of three children and four grandchildren.

surrounded by loving family, left his earthly home for his Heavenly one on Friday, August 18, 2006. Although his body succumbed to cancer, he refused to let his will and determination do the same. Even to the end, he kept his sweet spirit and spiritual strength. Born on June 2, 1931, in Hohenlinden, Mississippi, he was the eldest son born to John Robert and Erie O'Fallon Childs. As a graduate of the UT School of Dentistry in Memphis, he practiced dentistry in Kingston, having moved there with his young family in the fall of 1956.

During his long and honored career, he received the Second District Dental Association's most prestigious award, "Dentist of the Year." He often represented Roane County as a Second District Association councilman, and he held every office in the Roane County chapter of the group. He also served as vice-president of the Second District Association on two separate occasions, President of the East Tennessee Academy of Dental Practice, and several times as a delegate to the State Dental Association. He also maintained memberships with the American Dental Association, Tennessee State Dental Association, Second District Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, East Tennessee Academy of Dental Practice Administration and the Roane County Dental Society. A member of Lawnville Church of Christ, he was a strong supporter of the church. Even as his illness progressed, he continued to attend, being an inspiration to family and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents and his grandson, Robert Paul Webb. His legacy of survivors is a rich one -he and his wife, Martha Jenkins Childs, celebrated fifty-five years of marriage May 20, 2006. He also leaves behind six children who know that Heaven has welcomed him in: Robert (Bob) and wife, Tonja of Kingston; Kathy Webb and husband, Phil of Gray, TN; Cindy Moseley and husband, Milton; Kim Richardson and husband, Ridge; Brian and wife, Chris, all of Kingston; and youngest son, Barry of Lake Lure, NC. His grandchildren are: Robert (Robbie) Ill, Brad, Ryan and Whitney Childs; Phillip and Annie Webb; Kathryn and James Moseley; Steffan and Aaron Richardson; Rachael and Brian Childs, and Jennifer and Barry Childs, Jr. Greatgrandchildren are Autumn Childs, Joseph Moseley, Kayla Gilmore, with two additional ones due later in the fall.

He has two younger brothers, Richard and wife, Eva; Brad and wife, June as well as a brother-in-law, Daniel Jenkins and wife, Elaine. He has two nieces and five nephews along with a multitude of great nieces and nephews. SAMUEL RAYMOND, (Retired), United States Army age 89, passed away on August 16 at University Hospital in Knoxville, TN. Col. Combs is survived by: his wife, Dorothy; son, Richard Combs of Denver, CO; daughters, Margo Walsh of Punta Gorda, FL, and Linda Palmer of Alcoa, TN; three grandchildren, Tom and Brian Presnell of Alcoa and Kim Beard of Jupiter, FL; three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by: wife Margo, the mother of his children, who died in 1973, and wife Mary who died in 2004. Col.

Combs was born on September 16, 1916, in Joplin, Missouri. He was a longtime member of Church Street United Methodist Church, and attended Central Baptist Church of Bearden. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, Retired Officers Association, Military Order Wars, Sertoma. He grew up in Colorado, graduating from Glenwood Springs High School, where he was president of the senior class. He received a degree in Economics from Colorado State University, where he played football and basketball.

After Pearl Harbor, Col. Combs volunteered for the Army, becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the Signal Corps and was later sent to Boston College for training in Civil Affairs and Military Government. He landed at Omaha Beach a few days after serving with the Seventh Army, 36th Infantry Division. After the collapse of Germany, he served in Military Government and Army Civil Affairs assignments in Heidelberg, Vienna, Berlin, and the German state of Hesse. Col.

Combs also served in the Korean War, where he had troop commands. His military career included various Signal Corps assignments in the United States and overseas. He was an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Tennessee from 1961-64 and decided to make Knoxville his home. His last assignment before retirement was Division Chief and Deputy Commander of the Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot in Kentucky. Col.

He served his country in WWII and the Korean War, achieving the rank of Major. Mr. Cosby began a career with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1951 and became the first black manager of a Knoxville postal branch, retiring in 1980 as the Branch Manager of the Burlington Branch Office. Dr. Cronan was Professor Emeritus of Exercise Physiology at Carson Newman College. He his BS Physical all Education at LSU, MS in Physical Education at Northwestern State in Louisiana, and his Doctorate in Exercise Physiology, at Tennessee. He was presented the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Citadel; the Distinguished Service Award from the Tennessee Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. An LSU Track Field Letterman, he competed in Master's Track and Field and was the National Pentathlon Champion and a national runner-up in the Decathlon.

An life-long avid outdoorsman and promoter of wellness, Cronan was an Eagle Scout as a youth and hiked the 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail (Georgia to Maine) in his late 50's. During his W.A.R. (wellness, attitude, research) against cancer, he rode his motorcycle 7,300 miles across the country and appeared on Good Morning America to promote cancer awareness. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden where his commitment to Christ led him to serve his church as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member and past chair for Baptist Health System Board of Directors of Health Ventures, a member of Rotary Club of Jefferson City, and the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness.

Above all, he was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, and dedicated friend and teacher. Dr. Cronan was preceded in death by: his parents, Thomas L. Cronan, Jr. and Edna Reidinger Cronan.

Andrew was a 2006 graduate of Bearden High School where he was Captain of the State Championship Soccer Team, and member of the National Honor Society. Andrew played for the Diadora Impact Soccer Team, and the Stars Soccer Team. Andrew would have been a freshman at the University of Tennessee this fall. He is survived by: his parents, Jim and Linda Hinkle; brothers, Brian Hinkle and Matthew Hinkle all of Knoxville; paternal grandfather, James Hinkle, Sr. of Cumberland, Maryland; maternal grandfather, Austin Thomas Clarke of Liverpool, England; aunts and uncles, Linda and John Berkenbaugh of Barboursville, West Virginia, Jeanette and Jimmy McKibbin, Terry and Angela Clarke, Brian and Angela Clarke, and Kevin Clarke all of Liverpool, England; and a host of cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathan Malone and Rev. Wil Cantrell officiating. Interment to follow at Edgewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the members of the 2006 Bearden High School Soccer Team.
