THE PLAIN DEALER, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1992- -3-E George P. Simmerly, 51, honored as ironworker search Center. He died of those injuries Saturday at the Cleveland Clinic. He was 51. He was born in Cleveland's Tremont area and was a resident of.

the West Side. A respected and well- CLEVELAND George P. Simmerly was injured last month in a two-story fall from the Ohio Aerospace Institute he 1 was helping to build at NASA's Lewis Re- known construc- Simmerly tion worker in Ironworkers Local 17 for 27 years, he was employed by Kilroy Structural Steel Co. The Jacobs brothers awarded him a plaque "for excellence in craftsmanship quality" for his work on their Society Center Tower, and his colleagues voted him the most valuable ironworker on that project at Public Square. The photo of him accompanying this obituary was taken on the top of that building.

Other downtown projects on which he worked were the BP America Building, the Main Avenue Bridge and the Interstate 490 bridge. When not placing steel, he was a marathon and trail runner. He knew every trail in Cuyahoga County and taught many beginners how to appreciate the beauty of Greater Cleveland's forests. He was a member for many years of the Cleveland West Road Runners Club of Lakewood. That organization conducted a blood drive on his behalf when he was in intensive care at Southwest General Hospital and later at the Clinic.

14th St. A Edward P. Janosek, 89, bowled with brothers LAKEWOOD Edward P. Janosek was one of the founding members of the SS. Cyril and Methodius Church's athletic club in Lakewood, which was organized in 1945 and promoted and supported sports for youths.

He held various offices in the club, including secretary and trustee, in the 25 years he belonged to it. He died Friday at age 89. Mr. Janosek also served on the Catholic Order of Foresters, a fraternal lodge. He held the position of speaker for 34 years.

In the late 1930s, Mr. Janosek coached Lakewood youths in hardball. He was a member of the Lakewood Athletic and Baseball Commission. Mr. Janosek, a lifelong Lakewood resident, also was an avid bowler.

He and his seven brothers bowled together for many years and won many trophies. When he retired, he enjoyed fishing and going to horse racing tracks. For 37 years, he was a machine tool and die maker for the Ring Products Co. on Berea Rd. He retired in 1971 at age 69.

He is survived by two daughters, Arlene M. and Carol A. Kosik, both of Lakewood; eight grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at SS.
