I spent so long AVOIDING making these cookies. I mean, how could something called Trash Cookies possibly taste good?! They are also often called kitchen sink cookies… which doesn’t sound much better.

But, man! Was I naïve! These Trash Cookies turned out to be one of the best cookies I’ve had in a really long time!

Chocolate chips, mini peanut butter cups, pretzels, potato chips, white chocolate chips, sprinkles…. Seriously, these cookies are LOADED with so many things, you are pretty much stuffing everything BUT the kitchen sink into these cookies!

For the holidays, I use holiday sprinkles and holiday-colored m&ms to make them into Santa’s Christmas Trash Cookies. How cute is that?!!

Why are they called Kitchen Sink Cookies

When I was a child and packed too much for a trip or for school my dad would ask me “Did you pack everything but the kitchen sink?!” These cookies are LOADED with candy, potato chips, and pretzels, so you can see why they are called Kitchen Sink cookies… we packed everything BUT the kitchen sink in them!

The beauty of these cookies is that you can change up the goodies in the recipe and still come up with delicious cookies. If you are running short on some of the ingredients, don’t bother running to the store because you won’t be affecting the bake of the cookies.

How to Make Santa’s Christmas Trash Cookies

First, preheat the oven to 350°F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. (I love using my silicone baking mats because they make cleanup a breeze, and I hate throwing away all the parchment paper after I am done baking.)

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar.

Add in an egg and mix well.

Then, add in the all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt and stir together until fully incorporated. The dough will be very thick.

Next, you will add in all of the goodies (potato chips, m&ms, Reese’s baking chips and candy, chocolate chips, and sprinkles.) But, reserve some of the goodies to add on the top of the dough balls before they go in the oven so they will come out of the oven looking crazy delicious!

Use a spatula and gently stir all of the ingredients until they are well incorporated.

Roll into 1-1/2 tablespoon balls (or use a medium cookie scoop) and place them on the baking sheet. Add the reserved goodies and place a good amount of them on top of the dough ball. Add a sprinkle of sea salt flakes on the tops of the cookies.
